from the assignment sheet:
Select or take two photographs, one showing a man-made form and one an organic form, that makes a visual comparison with a particular letterform. Along with a phrase or sentence relating to your chosen image(s) and the name(s) of your type face and font, design two spreads combining the type and images.
FOR FRIDAY:
bring in your images to be sacanned or image files.
> if you are bringing in a hard copy/print:
make sure it is at least 50% of final size [8 x 8"]
> for digital files:
make sure files are at minimum 180 dpi at 100% size,
preferably 300 dpi.
[so set your camera on the best quality resolution.]
how to find out the size of your image:
in Photoshop, go under >IMAGE menu to 'image size'
in preview [part of your Mac system software] goto >TOOLS menu 'get info'
in iphoto, go to >PHOTOS menu to 'get info'
the info can be formatted in different ways and if you just look at the file size directly in its folder on your computer, it's a bit misleading because most files are compressed as jpgs to keep their size smaller.
note on jpg files: a compressed file format for easier transport. note that a 640kb jpg is actually a 5.5MB file once it's opened in photoshop or saved as tiff file.
my digital camera files from iphoto are about 8 x 6" at 180 dpi [that translates to 1600 x 1200 pixels]. this would be a minimum and definitely too small if you are going to crop any information out at all. this is certainly not enough quality for real offset printing at this final size.
