It would be great if UGA had some presence on this board. We don't want it to be dominated by portfolio center, SCAD, etc. Some of you should consider this. It would be a great networking oppurtunity. Liz Jahn, our UGA GD club president, attended a meeting about this recently. Get in touch with her if you are interested and/or have questions.
minutes from recent meeting:
AIGA Atlanta is planning a Student Board to help in exchange of ideas and information, as well as with building a community among design schools under the AIGA-ATL umbrella. There will be 12 positions on the board. Terms for board positions will last either January-June or January-December (depending on graduation). We also want to create a transition period for graduates before they reach the Associate level of membership (a 'student grad' level board) to help build a bridge of keeping members between the student and professional levels.
Why it's important to join AIGA
Designers are becoming more valuable and powerful in the corporate world and are being viewed as an economic force for the way we think. By grouping together and forming a community, we can make ATL designers as strong a force as NY, SanFran, etc. Becoming involved in AIGA events is worth your time and your $. Networking and creating relationships within the community and with other creatives becomes a valuable tool in becoming the best designer and creative thinker you can be. The brain that is created when two people think together is far more powerful than those two brains thinking separately.
AIGA ATL Chapter mission:
The mission of AIGA-ATL is to advance design in Atlanta and the Southeast as a professional craft, strategic tool for business, and global cultural force; to make Atlanta known as a badass design city. The Atlanta design community wants to keep students in the South, and to do that, we have to make the south a badass designer community and a place that is attractive to designers near and far.
What do you want AIGA to be for you?
